According to MMA Junkie (courtesy of Couture's training camp), there is a distinct possibility that the heavyweight superfight of the century could occur between Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko in January or February of next year.
Although still in the negotiations stage, it appears that representatives of both fighters and the UFC are working on bringing the two legends together. Couture has remained in shape during his layoff period, but his workouts have reportedly been focused towards an apparent up and coming bout with a much larger opponent - possibly Brock Lesnar. Speculation has it that it may be a condition that Couture defeats Lesnar in order to get a shot at Fedor.

At long last top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko has been offered a fight on US soil against another ranked heavyweight.
Sherdog has confirmed that Fedor will be fighting Tim Sylvia on the 19th July, although at this stage a venue has not been confirmed, even though Texas has been mentioned. This also confirms Tim Sylvia's future direction. He had one fight left on contract with the UFC, however a mutual agreement was made that he would be allowed to leave the organisation.
Fedor claims to be making preparations for the fight and is taking his training very seriously. This will be considered his first serious competition since defeating Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic in a points decision nearly 3 years ago.
Although having an impressive record of 27-1-0, with 1 no contest, Fedor has attracted much criticism lately from the media for not facing top competition. This coupled with the fact that Tim Sylvia is coming off a loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, offers the hope of a very exciting fight between two hungry fighters.
